I'm an atheist, and I met up with a few members of JWD several months back. I spent a fair bit of it talking about spiritual beliefs with a member who believes there is something there, and that the divine is in the bible (as well as other places). He knew what I believed (or rather, didn't believe).
You know what? It was so, so nice to be able to sit there and have a completely friendly and polite conversation with someone who disagress with you about the bible/God/etc. and not be worried or concerned about that disagreement in the slightest. I really enjoyed it, and we've been in touch since.
Online, discussions can be different. But it's really okay to disagree with each other here.

What is YOUR bible of choice?
by gloobster inalthough i'm pretty much an atheist, i still like reading the bible.
it's an amazing literary masterwork to say the least.. my question is, after discovering that the new world translation of the wts was poorly translated and altered in ways designed to support their various peculiar doctrines (see john 1:1, etc.
), what bible translation are you all the most fond of?.

My Marriage just ended I feel so sick and stressed please help me. Serious.

she doesn't want to work thru it.

You say you are confused. This is not a state in which you should make life-changing decisions such as joining a very controlling religion. Never be afraid to research, whether it's online or with scholarly books. Many here will give you very strong and blunt advice about the Watchtower Society, but you need to find things out properly for yourself.
As well as researching the UN issue (see United Nations Association (LINK)), I recommend you do some proper research into the bible to avoid getting only what one religion wants you to believe. 'How to Read the Bible: History, Prophecy, Literature--Why Modern Readers Need to Know the Difference, and What It Means for Faith Today' (LINK) is a brilliant book by a Hebrew scholar which contains very important insights which are crucial to avoid being taken in by convoluted interpretations of the literature in the bible. Read that book through at least once and compare it to what well-meaning Jehovah's Witnesses are teaching you. You may be told that people on the internet are spreading lies about the Watchtower Society because they are hateful and bitter (this is an ad hominem fallacy), but getting a book which does not concern itself with Jehovah's Witnesses will allow you to learn without fear of this.
And don't be scared if it's mentioned to you that Armageddon could happen any time soon. This is an appeal to fear which has been used in the Jehovah's Witnesses' ministry for over a century and is based on misapplication of scripture. Take your time and make the right decision, which is what a just God would want you to do.
